About the project location:
Brussels is not only the Belgian capital but also the European capital. The city combines the characteristics of a large city with the charm of smaller, quieter towns. Modern with a classical touch, the streets of Brussels are full of charm and history. Brussels can be visited on foot, by bike, but also by horse-drawn carriage. No, the people of Brussels do not eat Chips every day. That said, they are still proud of their chip shops, and there can be a queue of people outside the best ones at all hours. A very cosmopolitan city, Brussels offers a range of different cuisines from around the world scattered throughout the city.
Project hosted by
Les Compagnons de Chevlipont ASBL is a small association. In our space, which we call "CONSTRUCTORIUM", the projects aim to strengthen citizenship and to actively discover history. If you want humans to be brothers, make them build something together. This is our motto.
In volunteer camps, volunteers roll up their sleeves to face contemporary challenges, create a space for youth organizations and movements, actors of culture for all, to promote active methods in the world of education.
The premises we are developing are a place in ecological transition. To make it a sustainable space, we aim to reduce CO2 emissions, to recycle rainwater, to offer an independent place accessible to people with reduced mobility and hospital premises adapted to active education methods. By sensitzing the volunteers to the techniques of construction and entertainment, we mobilize tools to activate their hands and their conscience,... The association arises from the Resistance during the Second World War and cultivates the values of equality between men and women, freedom of thought, secularism and intergenerationality.
In pursuit of collective freedom, the organization seeks to open a door to peace and global connection through social economy. To promote peace education, our goal is to create and to improve infrastructures for educational and cultural actors. In the heart of the city, our goal is to develop a friendly and sustainable space of 800M2. The users of the renovated places of the CONSTRUCTORIUM are NGOs, non-profit organizations, youth organizations, women associations, local communities, etc. On the other hand, with an amateur theatre company (Les artistes solidaires), in order to raise awareness about the issue of refugees and exiles, we are recreating a dinner-show that took place on September 16, 1862, on the occasion of the first world edition of the book Les Misérables by Victor Hugo.
