DREAM MAKEOVER : BRING CHAPEL BACK TO LIFE

Project and work :

Discover the town of Bernaville and contribute to a renovation project for the town’s two small chapels.
On the agenda: removing roots damaging the structure, repointing damaged sections, repairing wooden doors, as well as sanding and cleaning. You’ll learn a variety of different techniques throughout the project. A rewarding experience blending craftsmanship, creativity, and intercultural exchanges!

Accommodation and meals:

You’ll stay in tents in the garden of the CAJ, known as “l’Usine,” where a large communal tent (marabout) will be set up as a living space with a dining area. Sanitary facilities, including showers provided by local sports clubs, will be available in the main building.
Collective living will be at the heart of this experience: you’ll share daily tasks and prepare meals together. The animation team will manage a budget, and you’ll take part in shopping and cooking, prioritizing healthy and locally sourced products.

Partner :

The town of Bernaville, located in the Somme, is a long-standing partner of Concordia. The municipality is always dedicated to welcoming volunteers, ensuring a warm and enriching stay, filled with intercultural exchanges and a true spirit of cooperation.

You’ll have the opportunity to meet the youth of the animation center, who will help on the workcamp some days, and with whom some activities will be shared.

Geographical location and leisure activities :

Bernaville is situated in the heart of the Picardy countryside, approximately 30 km from Amiens and its famous hortillonnages (floating gardens). The region offers a peaceful and green setting, perfect for hiking or cycling. Volunteers will also have the chance to explore nearby towns like Abbeville, Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, and the Bay of Somme, one of France’s most beautiful natural sites.
In August, there will be plenty of activities to enjoy, including local markets, summer festivals, and cultural events. With the animation team, you can organize trips to discover these local treasures while also enjoying moments of relaxation and sharing. Bernaville and its surroundings offer the perfect balance between cultural immersion, historical heritage, and nature-based leisure.

Special requirements and remarks:

Please bring good shoes, working clothes and a swimsuit. As nights can be quite cold,

remember also to bring warm clothes, a sleeping bag and a mattress for more comfort. Tents will be provided. You can also bring traditional recipes from your home country/region, music instruments and games.

Foreigners from the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Time and directions to the meeting point:

The meeting is planned at the train station of Amiens on August 1st, at the end of the day. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the info sheet, sent at least 4 weeks before the beginning of the workcamp.

From PARIS, regular trains (around 1 per hour) leave from the Gare du Nord train station for Amiens train station (1 hour trip).

From BEAUVAIS, a 1€ bus is available from the airport to the Amiens Train station.

If you are coming first by plane, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress-free journey.
