The project will consist of carrying out light maintenance and space renovation activities, such as repainting railings, restoring and reorganizing a currently unused part of the building, as well as implementing artistic improvements. As the association is a non-profit organization, all renovation activities will be low-cost, based on the use of simple and affordable materials, creative reuse, and the contribution of volunteers’ ideas and skills. Creative and artistic proposals aimed at enhancing the spaces are particularly welcome. Volunteers will work approximately 5 hours per day, usually divided into 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Most of the work will take place within the facility, allowing for a certain degree of flexibility in the daily schedule, provided that the objectives agreed at the beginning of the project are achieved. During the two weeks of the workcamp, one afternoon trip to Tivoli, one full day in Rome are already planned and there will be one free day that participants can decide how to spend independently.
Accomodation and food
Volunteers will stay at the association’s large and well-equipped facility. They will sleep in shared mixed rooms on inflatable mattresses (1-2 large rooms depending on the number of participants, gender separation is not possible). The structure has 6 bathrooms, 3 showers, Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen, indoor and outdoor common spaces, musical instruments, a ping-pong table and a projector.
Volunteers will cook and eat on site, and meat consumption will be very limited.
Location and leisure
Carsoli is a small town in the Abruzzo region (about 5.500 inhabitants), located 60 km from Rome and well connected by train, bus and highway. The territory is rich in forests and protected areas, with caves, hiking trails and natural sites of high environmental value that volunteers will be able to visit.
During the camp there will already be 2 organised visits to Rome and Tivoli, but volunteers are free to enjoy Carsoli surroundings during their free time.
Project hosted by
The project is organised in collaboration with Il Mondo in una Stanza association. The association was founded with the aim of creating a shared space where the community can access educational and cultural services at affordable prices, so that everyone can take part. They operate in an area with very limited cultural opportunities: in Carsoli, the town where the camp is located, there is not even a cinema. In this context, the association has become a meaningful place for many people, adults, children and young people, to discover new passions and build friendships.
The organisation has a large facility that allows it to host a wide range of activities, including sports courses such as judo and yoga, music classes, painting courses, various workshops and cultural events such as concerts and book presentations. In addition, the space hosts a library that is open and accessible to everyone.
