REDISCOVERING THE RUINS OF CAMPARIAN CANEJAN

Project and work :

Take part in the rediscovery of the Camparian ruins in the pretty commune of Canéjan! Set between a lake and a pine forest, the workcamp will take place on the site where archaeological digs in 1966 uncovered the ruins of a chapel and a monastery.

Together, you will restore and secure the two wells on the site. You will be accompanied by a technical guide who will show you how to rebuild and protect the stone walls.

Accommodation and meals:

Accommodation is in individual tents (Concordia provides), with sanitary facilities, kitchen and communal living area. The camp will be based close to Canéjan's sports facilities. You'll share collective tasks and prepare meals together. A budget will be allocated to the group, and you'll take part in shopping and meal preparation, giving priority to healthy, local produce. WIFI available.

Together, you'll take part in organizing community life (housework, activities, etc.) and in preparing meals, taking turns using locally sourced produce. We aim to encourage vegetarian eating with local, seasonal produce, while respecting participants' diets and discovering local cuisines together.

Partner :

Camparian, a locality in the commune of Canéjan, is home to the ruins of an ancient priory. Excavations were carried out between 1966 and 1970, and again in 2010. These uncovered the ruins of a chapel and a monastery. The local authority now wants to enhance the area and bring back these ruins, so that the site can attract local residents and become a place to learn about history.

Geographical location and leisure activities :

The commune of Canéjan is located in the middle of a pine forest, and boasts a lake, the Lac Vert (Green Lake), as well as a number of sports facilities (stadiums, BMX area), hiking trails in the pine forests and cycle paths. It is less than an hour from the city of Bordeaux and close to the Atlantic coast and its beaches. On the programme: a tour of Bordeaux, a day at the beach and the famous Dune du Pilat, local events and festivities.

Good to know:

Bring a sleeping bag, a thick mattress, work clothes, walking and work shoes, warm clothing and rain gear, a torch, a swimming costume and sun cream.

If you'd like to share a little of your culture (recipes, traditional stories, unusual objects, music...), don't hesitate to take a little bit of your country or region in your rucksack.

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Time and directions to the meeting point:

The meeting point is at CESTAS-GAZINET SNCF station on 02/07 in the late afternoon.

The exact meeting time will be communicated with the info sheet, sent out no later than 4 weeks before the start of the project.

Several direct trains (approximately one per hour) leave PARIS to BORDEAUX. The journey takes between 2 and 3 hours.
