Work:

1) Introduce your home country’s culture and language through fun games and interactive activities to elementary kids, 2) Practice the traditional dance together with local children and 3) Visiting to a Nursery School and seaside cleanup

Accomodation and food

Accommodation is at a local community center. Meals will be cooked by volunteers in turns. A sleeping bag is necessary. Rooms will be shared with other volunteers.

Hirata town, Izumo city, About 250 km north west of Osaka. Other activities - Experiencing Japanese culture, etc.

Project hosted by

This project is actively working for SDG 4 (Quality Education), organized together with local group for International workcamp in Hirata since 2001. Hirata town is depopulated area in Izumo city and they don’t have much chance to have an international interact, which is important for kids growth. Also, the number of people who maintain the environment is getting decreasing. We will organize a two-day open lesson for local elementary school students who have few opportunities to experience different cultures. Volunteers will introduce their own culture and language through fun games and activities. Kawashimo Bon Odori, a 700-year-old traditional dance registered as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Izumo City, is an important part of the community. Participants will practice the dance with local residents together and help pass it on to the next generation. Through this workcamp, we aim to make this rural community more open and connected to the world.

Study theme - Volunteers will get knowledge of good ways of interaction with kids and learning local dance. Participation fee - 9,000 JPY (50 EUR by the rate on 2026 Feb. 14) of "NICE Volunteers" fee need to be paid in advance either by Card or PayPal. This is used for the project preparation/ coordination such as the transportation of the staff/ camp leaders, visa invitation cost, publications, etc. while the meals and the accommodation are provided by the local host by free (so, your fee is not used for those things!).
