In this youth exchange you will learn about the historical foundations of democracy in Germany up to its present-day manifestations and find out why it is so important to live and protect democratic values. You will learn a lot about this topic in interactive workshops and will be able to actively participate. These workshops will be complemented by excursions to important historical sites. We are planning a day trip to Mainz, where you will take part in a workshop and simulation game that will teach you a lot about exclusion in everyday life at the state, political and public levels and encourage you to question how democratic coexistence can succeed. We have also planned another day trip for you to Frankfurt, where you will visit the Adlerwerke historical site and take part in a workshop. The Adlerwerke is a place of forced labour. During the Second World War, forced labourers worked here on a large scale, mainly producing engines and vehicle parts for the Wehrmacht. In addition, we also want to discuss other important topics with you, such as gender equality, intercultural learning and anti-racism/anti-discrimination, based on the principles of the ijgd. In addition to the intensive exchange and excursions, there will be plenty of time on the weekend to go on trips or you can explore Wiesbaden and the surrounding area in the evenings during the week.
Accomodation and food
You live in the Naturfreundehaus Heidehäuschen in Wiesbaden.
There will be a cook. Help in the kitchen especially during cleaning is required. Please indicate any intolerances when registering.
Location and leisure
Wiesbaden and the surrounding area offer a wide variety of leisure activities in a diverse environment combining city life, culture and nature. Freudenberg Castle is located right next to your accommodation and the surrounding forest also offers ideal conditions for group activities and nature experiences. A special destination is Neroberg, which is known not only for its beautiful views of the city, but also for its wineculture and vineyards. Perhaps you would like to start the project by visiting the ‘Rheingau Wine Week’. It takes place in Wiesbaden until 23 August. Local winegrowers present their wines and sparkling wines at over 100 stands. In addition, Biebrich Castle near the Rhine is well worth a visit. Sporting activities are possible at the climbing park, but Wiesbaden also has several swimming pools. Furthermore, excursions to the Rhine and neighbouring towns in the region are also possible.
We have already planned two excursion days for you. You can look forward to them!
