The work will be carried out in collaboration with the technical staff of the park and will focus on two main areas. The first is the care and maintenance of the park center's natural spaces: volunteers will be involved in light gardening activities, cleaning and upkeep of wetland areas, orchards and botanical paths, with the aim of preserving the habitats that host protected amphibian species. The second area concerns the maintenance of the Cà Matta structure itself, including general upkeep of the building and its surrounding spaces. Through these activities, volunteers will contribute to keeping the park center fully operational and accessible, ensuring it can continue to serve as a hub for environmental education and biodiversity conservation for local schools and communities.
Accommodation and food
Volunteers will be hosted at the Cà Matta Park Center, immersed in the woods of the Maresana hill, just a short walk from the city of Bergamo. The facility consists of two dormitories, several bathrooms, and two living rooms, plus a large shared kitchen where meals will be prepared together. The diet will be based mostly on local products. Wi-Fi connection is available.
Location and leisure
The Cà Matta Park Center is located on the Maresana hill, in the municipality of Ponteranica, at 546 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Bergamo Hills Park, a natural area just outside the city of Bergamo. Cà Matta is a valid base for reaching destinations of valuable naturalistic, historical and artistic interest and entertainment of Bergamo and its Province. Environmental education activities are carried out at the Park Center, with specific educational courses aimed at schools of all levels. The proposals and management of the spaces are oriented towards the protection of the natural world and the construction of an eco-sustainable personal and social conscience. The center also hosts an experimental breeding facility for the yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata), a protected amphibian species, making it a key site for the conservation of local biodiversity. Legambiente Bergamo collaborates with the park to involve local communities, students and international volunteers in the care and valorisation of the territory.
Meeting point: Bergamo train station, first day of the camp at 4 p.m.
