This year's work includes the excavation, cleaning, and documentation of archaeological finds on the former camp site. The discovered objects will be presented in the exhibition or used for educational purposes.
It is a rare opportunity to participate in an archaeological excavation on site of a location where Nazi crimes were committed.
Accommodation and food
Accommodation is provided in the beautiful premises of the community centre of the Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church in Hasbergen in two shared room, so that gender segregation is possible. Participants must bring their own sleeping mat or air mattress and sleeping bag.
The community centre has a spacious kitchen where the group can prepare their meals together. There are toilets in the building and a shower trailer is available outside. A nice seminar room is available for group activities.
Location and leisure
Hasbergen (near Osnabrück) Hasbergen is a small community, some minutes by train from the city of Osnabrück, on the edge of the TERRA.vita Nature and Geopark, which includes the "Hüggel", a very scenic mountain range that is part of the "Teutoburg Forest" low mountain range. Osnabrück is a typical northern german city and is as large to be called urban, but as small to experience everyday life in Germany realistically. It has a university and the city is internationally committed to dialogue, reconciliation and human rights
Free time activities may include outdoor barbecues, games and creative activities indoors and outdoors, as well as a joint movie evening. The surrounding area also offers many opportunities to actively experience nature — from leisurely walks to longer hikes. A particular highlight of the area is the Silbersee lake with its impressive quarry landscape. The lake offers an extraordinary natural backdrop and is a popular destination for excursions and joint exploration tours.
The beautiful city of Osnabrück is just a few minutes away by train and offers a wide range of leisure activities with its cafés, museums and shopping centres.
As part of the workcamp, excursions to Osnabrück and the Netherlands are planned.
Requirements: Applicants should have general interest in new perspectives, intercultural encounters and german memory culture. The work involves physical tasks in the field of excavation. English language skills are necessary to understand the study part.
