The local government of Barili, Cebu is one of GIED’s active local partner institution and their Barangay Pang-Pang has been one of our longstanding host community for our international workcamps since 2018 up to present. Barangay Pang-pang is a dynamic mountain rural community with a good population of young and old families. Because of its high elevation, farming has become their primary means of livelihood. An organic demonstration farm is located in their village that is managed by the Municipal Agriculture Office.
Pang-pang Community is an ideal place for community immersion and service learning opportunities. Their vibrant community is active in promoting farming as a more sustainable and lucrative livelihood for upland communities, offering an alternative to activities like charcoal production and firewood gathering, which have contributed significantly to
deforestation. GIED continue its effort by bridging international volunteers to the community to have first hand experience about upland rural community life, learn and understand culture, build friendship, solidarity and actively engage in creating a safe and healthy space for holistic development.
