The Emmaus Community of Catanzaro is part of the global Emmaus Movement, which aims to combat poverty and social exclusion through the principles of work, sharing, and mutual aid. EMMAUS Catanzaro manages a community for homeless men with social and economic difficulties based in Satriano (CZ). Emmaus runs the community in self-management and self-financing through the recovery of second-hand goods and the Mercatino Solidale (Flea Market) and through the help of local volunteers.
Work
Volunteers will help in collecting second-hand goods, arrange the solidarity market, advertising, tidying up and cleaning premises, serving meals. The work is organised only for half a day. One day off within the week.
Accomodation and food
Volunteers will stay on the ground floor of the community in rooms with bunk beds. They will have a bathroom with a shower (extra showers will only be available outside during July-Aug.) Volunteers will experience community life with the community members who host them and will eat meals together. The kitchen is not available to volunteers, but meals are prepared for everyone in the community canteen by an assigned person.
