The volunteer work required includes working in our fields and vegetable garden: harvesting wheat in the fields, mowing the grass, picking vegetables, and tidying up. You may also be asked to help with daily self-sufficiency tasks, such as cooking or cleaning, always under the guidance of a community member. You will also be asked to participate in community organizational meetings, adhere to our basic agreements, and attend sessions on community communication methods. You'll work at dawn and dusk, not during the central hours of the day.
Accommodation and food
Accommodation can be either in your own tent or in a shared room with the other volunteeers of Gaia Terra. Bed, matress and pillow are provided, but volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bag (it can be cold at night), towels and slippers. If you’d prefer not to bring towels, we can provide them for you.
Location and leisure
Via Petrarca 45, Flambruzzo di Rivignano, province of Udine (30 km from Udine and 30 km from Lignano, on the coast) 1 hour from Venice or Trieste.
The activities we can do together are quite varied: from walks in the surrounding area to group games, evenings around the campfire, and musical jams that spring from our ability to sing or play an instrument. We’re right on the banks of the Stella River, where many of us go swimming every day. Venice and Trieste are an hour away by public transportation, and Udine is half an hour away. We don’t want the community to organize the free time, everyone can make their own plans while respecting the agreement to volunteer a minimum of 30 hours a week in support of community activities.
Requirements
We accept everyone. The work isn’t particularly hard, and if necessary, you can switch tasks. Community life includes cleaning the premises and cooking for the community; volunteers will be guided in all activities and can choose where they feel most comfortable.
A motivational letter is mandatory to take part in the project
Additional comments
The diet is vegan for everyone; we ask that you respect this policy during your stay. We practice moderation, so it is best not to drink for the sake of entertainment, but only mindfully, and not to offer alcohol to people whose background you do not know. The ATM is 2 km away. See the attached low-impact welcome sheet. No chemical products may be used here (no shampoo, no soap unless strictly biodegradable); we do not use toilet paper; water is used for personal hygiene. Everyone is responsible for their own cup and plate.
