Description: The Ecovillage works on the rehabilitation of the Pincemaille naturalistic domain from a perspective of ecological transition. It offers a sustainable way of housing that guarantees a healthier and less expensive lifestyle, while promoting diversity and social and intergenerational inclusion. The Pincemaille Ecovillage is an area inhabited with respect for the surrounding environment. Alternative residential groups and individual inhabitants gather, collaborate and draw inspiration from shared governance models. Together, they work for the development of each person’s freedom, while promoting an active social and cultural life.
Type of Work: Volunteers will help in the preparation of the neighbours' party, which will take place in Pincemaille on 10/08, with some animations and a small concert. In addition, volunteers will participate in the restoration of the wetlands and the stream cleaning of the ecovillage. At some point, the work will also include the depollution (waste removal) of new soon-to-be wood areas and help some residents in the organisation in alternative housing.
Study Theme: Alternative Green housing, waste management, community living, social and intergenerational inclusion.
Accommodation: Tents. A small cottage can serve as technical support (shower, in case of very bad weather). Tents are available, but please take your mattress and sleeping bag. Self-managed food based on a daily budget provided by the association for working days dedicated to the shared areas or covered by those residents who request help.
Language: English. French can be useful to exchange with the residents of the ecovillage.
Requirements: This project addresses volunteers who want to discover the philosophy/spirit behind green housing and alternative lifestyles from a social diversity perspective.
Approximate Location: Pincemaille is located at 5 km far from Biche station: you can go directly from Brussels station by train or by bus (there are 2 very sporadic lines). A Ravel network (cycle paths) also allow a cycling connection.
Notes: Many SCI camps will have an additional fee of €50.00. This will cover: local hosting costs; the volunteer’s International insurance costs; a small travel fund to enable disadvantaged volunteers to join projects; SCI Online Placement System costs
