Shooting stars: Sustainability Astronomy and decarbonization

Work:

From the team we are organizing different actions around the sustainability and decarbonization. We would like to generate a work camp whose purpose is one of the actions raised (for example: finish wooden booth, create and assemble accessories or decorations around...).The work is conceived as a space of action and practical learning linked to sustainability and the improvement of the spaces of the house of colonies. In this project you can include gardening, construction tasks, assembly of decorative elements.

Our project this year 2026 in volunteer workcamp is about astronomy, we have a project in the Atmella del Valles, where we want to create a small space where all those who access our homes of colonies can know a little more of our skies. The project will consist of creating a telescope-equipped wooden booth and different research projects to know what we can find, such as can be constellations, stars, the moon.. What we want with these fields of work, we finish preparing the area and decorating it so that it is another attraction of our house.

Accomodation and food

The facilities the volunteers will enjoy/are the same as those of the house where the work camp will be carried out:
Can Xammar. Specifically, of the following spaces:

• Mixed lavabos
• Equipped kitchen
• Outdoor spaces
• Interior recreation spaces
• Camping space

Location and leisure

Ametlla del Vallès.

Visiting close cities, mountain hikes or resting, whatever the group decides!

Project hosted by

SCI Catalunya is the Catalan branch of SCI, one of the 2 SCI branches in Spain. We are based in Barcelona and our working area covers the Catalan countries (including Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands and Andorra). The other provinces of Spain are covered by SCI Madrid. SCI was founded in 1982 and he organization works on both a global and local level. On the global level, we organize international workcamps in the above mentioned territory Long Term Voluntary Projects (including EVS), trainings and seminars. . On the local level, we work to promote peaceful social transformation of society in order to encourage sustainable human development and a culture of peace, through volunteer groups, involving our community and local networks.
