Experience Finnish lakeside country life, while taking part in everyday communal housekeeping and renovation projects, and getting to know small-scale gardening. Community thinking and working are the key elements of this camp, which is set at the old/former vicarage site by a lake, and also produces organic food products (herbs and berries). Please note that due to the landscape and the accommodation building's old architecture, this camp is not easily accessible.
Type of Work
Gardening, easy house renovations such as small building and painting tasks, berry picking and the natural processing of the berries and herbs by hand. All the work is designed and carried out as sustainably as possible, respecting the old vicarage building and its surrounding garden and lakeside nature.
Study Theme
The particular study themes on this volunteer camp are sustainable communal gardening, small renovations and bases of shared communal decision-making.
Accommodation
Volunteers will stay at the old vicarage building in shared rooms in smaller groups. The accommodation is upstairs and the stairway is not suitable for people with mobility restrictions. Beds, bed linen and pillows will be provided to the volunteers. Showers and toilets are shared. The participants will make their own meals. Vegetarian/vegan-based menu.
Requirements: Volunteers should be prepared for outdoor work and therefore have clothing that can withstand dirt and get wet. Also, rubber boots and a raincoat are recommended to bring along due to the quickly changing summer weather.
Location and leisure: Teisko Village, Pirkanmaa region, around 30 km out of the central city area of Tampere. Volunteers have the opportunity to play garden games, swim, visit nearby nature parks and tennis/badminton fields, or try rowing as a team using the traditional church boat.
