Project hosted by
This project actively contributes to SDG 15: Life on Land, and has been organized in collaboration with local NPO — The Association for Protecting Nature in Tondabayashi since 1999. Satoyama are traditional rural landscapes of woodlands, fields, and rivers, shaped by human activity over centuries. Unlike untouched nature, they create diverse environments and support rich biodiversity. With urbanization, many forests are now unmanaged, reducing vegetation diversity and altering the satoyama ecosystem. Through this project, we aim to revive Satoyama with the power of global volunteerism! Most members of the local organizations are between 60 and 80 years old, and they greatly welcome the participation of young people and international volunteers to help energize and support their activities—both physically and mentally.
