Organized by the Yamato Traditional Fishing Weir Preservation Association, the first-class river Enogawa, also known as Chugoku Taro, flows through the Tsuga area of Misato. This is the only area along the Gono River where the fishing method known as Yana fishing is still practiced. The co-organizing organizations are dedicated to preserving this fishing method for future generations, which led to the establishment of the new preservation association in 2020.
Yana fishing is a traditional fishing method in Japan, where a fish trap called yana is set up in a river to catch fish. The yana is a type of fish weir or net placed in the river's flow, and fish are captured as they swim into it. This fishing technique is still practiced in some regions of Japan.
You can learn about the ecology of sweet fish (ayu) and rivers while also being involved in rural tourism development and regional revitalization.
