During Re:habitus Workcamp II, volunteers will engage in essential groundwork to prepare the land for its transformation into an educational and permaculture center. The tasks include:
Cleaning the land and collecting garbage
Cutting invasive species and managing overgrown grass
Deconstructing an old building while salvaging reusable materials
Beginning infrastructure work to support future use
By the end of summer, we aim to establish a camping area, complemented by new paths, an additional compost toilet, and a shower. These improvements will create the foundation for welcoming participants and visitors in the seasons ahead.
Alongside the practical work, the camp will nurture creativity and reflection. An ongoing art project will unfold on-site, while a series of video podcasts—Forest Talks—will be recorded, offering space for dialogue and storytelling. In addition, participants will collaborate on a dystopian short film set in the Tavankut forest, blending ecological restoration with artistic exploration.
Accommodation and food
Volunteers will be accommodated in tents provided by VCV (two volunteers per tent, with mattresses included). Each participant should bring their own sleeping bag. If you already have your own tent and prefer to use it, you are welcome to bring it along.
The camping area is located just one minute’s walk from the working site, ensuring easy access to daily activities. Basic facilities will be available on-site: an outdoor shower and compost toilets. Cooking will take place in an outdoor kitchen equipped with a stove and fridge. Meals will be prepared by volunteer kitchen teams, featuring local vegetarian food with vegan options.
All necessary tools for the workcamp will be provided by VCV. If you are missing some equipment or have specific needs, there will be space to communicate this so that arrangements can be made. The focus is on creating a supportive environment where everyone can participate fully, regardless of what they bring with them.
Location and leisure
Donji Tavankut, Subotica, Vojvodina
On the 8th of August there will be a music festival Malomfest in the area, and we are planning to provide transportation to the festival for one evening. The day after, on the 9th, will be a free day of the camp, to celebrate the work that has been done during the camp.
Requirements
At the camp, we’ll keep things simple, supportive, and respectful. Everyone is asked to use biodegradable cosmetics, since the shower water will be reused to nourish fruit trees, and to follow the principle “what you bring, you take back” so that no personal waste is left behind. Please bring your own sleeping bag—tents and mattresses are provided, or you can bring your own tent if you prefer.
Life together will be guided by a group contract we create collectively, making sure everyone feels included and supported. Respecting quiet hours is important—if someone is resting during free time, let’s keep the space calm. Communication is key: open, honest, and kind dialogue helps us work and live together smoothly.
We stand for solidarity and respect. There is no room for hate or discrimination. Meals will be vegetarian with vegan options, and cooking will be done by rotating teams—so we’ll share the work and enjoy preparing food together.
🌱 Open Call for Local Action: If any volunteers would like to organize a local action, a seed exchange, or another type of community event, we warmly encourage it. Bring seeds for local exchange, since we’ll be talking about permaculture, sharing knowledge, resources, and building connections together.
