The participants will clear and tidy the environment and separate waste materials for future use or for recycling. One day volunteers will have a workshop on how to make art from recycled materials. The host is very nice and innovative and takes good care of the volunteers. They will organise interesting visits to nearby sights and events. The energy transition topic will be shared and discussed. There will be some interesting visits to local energy sources such as fuel peat producers who are changing their activities from fuel peat to more sustainable options.
Accomodation and food
Shared accommodation in a cottage by a small clear lake within a walking distance from Alpo Savannah. The cottage has a sauna and a good beach for swimming. All meals will be plant based and cooked together.
Location and leisure
The Alpo savannah is located in a rural setting in the village of Nummijarvi far from shopping centers and city life, but with great surrounding nature. Finnish idyll at its best. The nearest town Kauhajoki is 30 kilometers away.
Project hosted by
The local host is an association that maintains the Alpo savannah which is a sculpture park created by DIY artist Alpo Koivumaki. They repair, restore and preserve the sculptures he made from waste materials. They want the sculptures to be admired by visitors in the future as well.This camp is a part of the project European Youth in Action: policymakers for climate justice, supported by the CERV programme, improving competences in concrete actions for climate justice. The horizontal theme of this camp is energy transition.
Directions to meeting point
Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Helsinki can also be reached by ferry. It takes about 4-5h to reach Kauhajoki from Helsinki.
