Ovakorusu Wild Animal Shelter is one of the few facilities in Europe. This facility houses and treats injured or disadvantaged wild animals in nature. The animals are kept in their natural habitat. There are dozens of disadvantaged animals such as bears, wolves, foxes, hawks and owls in the facility.
Volunteers help with the daily feeding of animals. When necessary, they participate in their treatment and vaccination processes with professionals. Environmental cleaning and organization of the facility are also done with volunteers.
Volunteers also participate in repairs and painting of areas in need of repair at the facility. Work with wild animals is carried out with safety precautions. Our volunteers have gained extraordinary experience in this project in the past years.
Accomodation and food
There is a small guesthouse for volunteers in the facility. The guesthouse is for IVS volunteers only. Volunteers stay in rooms for 2-3 people. The guesthouse has a kitchen, bathroom, toilet and air conditioning. There is a common area where volunteers can socialize. Volunteers prepare their meals together in their guesthouse.
Location and leisure
Bursa has many historical beauties as it was the first capital of the Ottoman Empire. This city, built in a forested area, also has natural beauties worth seeing. It can be reached from the airports in Istanbul by shuttle in approximately 3 hours. Many excursions and cultural activities await you in this city, which is also famous for its food. Volunteers can socialize as they wish at the facility.
Project hosted by
We are organizing this project for the 4th time with the contributions of the General Directorate of Forestry. The regional manager, Karacabey Municipality, also supports this project. This facility is not a zoo but a rehabilitation center and is closed to outside visitors.
Directions to meeting point
Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport is the best option. From this airport, you can reach Bursa Bus Terminal by shuttle, and from there you can reach Karacabey Bus Terminal by bus. There is also a shuttle option from Istanbul Airport, but it is further away.
