The volunteers will assist in organizing a local music and culture festival in Jalasjarvi. Aukusti festival has been organised since 2000 and August 2024 marks the 20th time the event is held. The volunteers will assist in practical tasks, which are simple but sometimes heavy work, in arranging the event. The first week will mostly consist of building the fences and setting up and on the second week tidying up the area afterwards. So if you are interested in music and the Finnish countryside, and are ready to work hard outdoors in all weather conditions this is the camp for you.
Accomodation and food
Accommodation is at a local youth centre Wilhola within walking distance from the festival area. There is a shared sleeping area. Meals will be cooked together by the volunteers. The youth centre has a lot of activities, pool table and games. Additionally, the festival organizer also has a movie theater that is accessible to volunteers throughout the camp. Some trips to nearby places such as Ahtari Zoo and to expereince Seinajoki nightlife are also organized for volunteers.
Location and leisure
Jalasjarvi is a community of about 8000 people in Ostrobothnia in western Finland. The nearest town is Seinajoki, which is also the most convenient to reach by train from Helsinki. Seinajoki train station is about a 3 hour train ride from Helsinki airport There are also buses as www.onnibus.fi but they are way less easy as the train leaves from the airport and you only need to change in Tikkurila.
Project hosted by
The camp host is the local cultural association Mukula which organises various cultural events for children and young people such as an annual rock festival in Jalasjarvi. The festival attracts several thousand guests. The organiser has hosted many great work camps earlier related to this festival.
