Work
Volunteers will have a diverse mission this summer, balancing nature restoration, urban maintenance, and community development. Alongside Sergio, a local worker, the team will focus on environmental action by performing direct maintenance, clearing footpaths, and preserving the surrounding trails of the breathtaking Fonts de l’Algar natural area. In addition to trail care, volunteers will take charge of a town infrastructure renovation, painting and restoring the local sports courts and the historic chapels of El Calvario. The project also features a strong social component: volunteers will integrate into village life by supporting some youth activities at the Punt Jove (Youth Center) and helping the Town Hall organize and run local summer events. Finally, a high degree of flexibility is required, as the team may be asked to support other ongoing community or logistical tasks organized by De Amicitia in the area, keeping the true spirit of comboi and teamwork alive throughout the 14 days.
Accomodation and food
Volunteers will stay in a basic rural house located directly above the Tourism Office, a few kilometers from the village center. It features shared rooms, showers, and toilets. Mattresses are provided, but bringing your own bed sheets and a summer sleeping bag is mandatory.
Food is provided by De Amicitia. All meals are prepared collectively by volunteers in organized shifts under the guidance of the campleaders.
Important: Please be aware that during the summer, weather conditions can be very demanding due to extremely high temperatures.
Location and leisure
The municipality is located in the province of Alicante, in the northern part of the Marina Baixa region, 10 km from the coast and 42 km from the city of Alicante.
Algar Waterfalls at only 15 km from Benidorm and 3 km from the center of Callosa. This area was declared a Wetland protected by the Valencian Government. It is a park about the importance of water as an environmental resource, economical and cultural. The visit is a route through a circuit of 1.5 km in length along, where you can walk through the bed of the river Algar, see the spectacular waterfalls and the numerous sources, the "tolls" (pools of water) where you can take refreshing swims in crystal clear water, the old dam, the imposing century-old canal and ditches still in use.
Apart from the Waterfalls, there are other interesting sites in Callosa like the cultural heritage of the town, old narrow streets in the center. Also, there are several beautiful hiking routes around Callosa. One of the most spectacular places is El Fort de Bèrnia.
Not far from Callosa, you can visit a town called Guadalest which has an ancient castle. Also, Altea, another beautiful town near the sea can be visited. The beach is not far from the house and somedays, the volunteers can take a trip to the beach of Altea.
Project hosted by
Town Hall of Callosa d'en Sarria. De Amicitia have been collaborating with this local partner for many years. Since recent years the town hall is developing a policy of sustainable tourism which includes the recuperation of deprived environmental areas and cultural heritage.
