Work
Welcome to Aubigne Racan, a small but dynamic village in the middle of the Loire Valley! Come and take part in the wall renovation to continue the work that was started by a first group of volunteers.
For a dozen years now the mayor and the villagers are very enthusiastic to welcome international groups. For this year’s work, you will learn how to rebuild the wall, supported by professionals in masonry, including a Compagnon du Devoir, the prestigious craftsmanship school.
If you wish to learn professional masonry techniques in a joyful and international atmosphere, this project is for you!
Accomodation and food
You will be accommodated in tents (provided by Concordia) at the municipal stadium, which is a 10 minutes’ walk from the worksite! Group life will be organized nearby in a room provided for the group. There, you will share the various group tasks and activities. Together, you will participate in organizing group life (cleaning, activities, etc.) and take turns preparing meals using products you will purchase locally. The activity leaders will have a budget to cover these expenses, but you will be responsible for preparing the menus and doing your own shopping. A vegetarian diet using local and seasonal products will be preferred, while respecting the participants dietary requirements and allowing you to discover local cuisine.
Location and leisure
Aubigne-Racan is located in the south of the Sarthe department, 40 km south of Le Mans and 15 km west of Chateau-du-Loir. The village is known for the remarkable Gallo-Roman remains discovered there, including an ancient theatre, baths, and a market-forum. The Loire Valley region is also a great place for nature lovers and walking enthusiasts. For those who prefer the city life, Le Mans and Tours are easily accessible by train.
Project hosted by
The municipality is very used to hosting workcamps, and they take good care of you!
On the first weekend, you will be invited to meet with the local population on the market. The community will propose for sure ideas for leisure time activities, and let’s not forget the « home apero » where you can try local beverages and food. The national holiday is happening during the workcamp on the 14th of July, where you will be invited to the local festivities.
Directions to meeting point
The meeting will take place in AUBIGNE RACAN train station on the 2nd of July, end of the afternoon.
The exact meeting time will be communicated with the infosheet, which we will send maximum 4 weeks before the beginning of the workcamp.
